Operation Minnesota Nice (OMN)
Dedicated to serving our military troops serving abroad since 2004
What is “Operation Minnesota Nice”?
A Minnesota based non-profit organization dedicated to positively supporting our military troops who are currently in active duty and who do not regularly receive correspondence and packages from home. Through volunteers and donations, monthly letters and packaged items are sent to identified soldiers. Thus far, over 4,300 soldiers have been “adopted” and over 30,000 packages have been shipped.
How Does The Program Positively Affect The Troops?
In the words of our soldiers……
“Hello, I received three boxes from you yesterday. Thank you very much! Great choice in reading materials. Those letters from the little kids were awesome too.”
“Hello! I received your two packages, thank you very much! They were greatly appreciated. I think it’s awesome what your group is doing!”
“First of all thank you, thank you very much. I never knew what Operation Minnesota Nice was. I didn’t sign up for it so maybe I just got lucky. I guess I should say thank you though….it really meant a lot to me.”
“My name is Abraham. I want to start by thanking you for sending all the great packages. I really like that people care about what is going on with the troops. I really appreciate the support and thank you once again….. We don’t really get much on holidays cause we are in a pretty closed area so there isn’t much they can do for us. The cooks usually just cook a nice dinner. That’s about it. Well I need to get back to work. Thanks again!”
“I got off at 10:30 PM last night after pulling my second 4-hour guard shift of the day here in beautiful Baghdad (ha). I opened the box that you guys sent me with all of the Christmas items and it brought a genuine smile to my face and touched my heart in a way that I haven’t felt in a long time. I put my little Christmas tree up and put some decorations on it, as well as, hung my stocking. I just want to say thank you for the kindness that you all have shown me and my fellow soldiers during the course of this long fifteen months in Iraq. The boxes that we receive have definitely been a morale boost…...I prayed that God would continue to Bless you! Merry Christmas!”
How Can You Make a Difference?
- YOU can sign up to individually sponsor a soldier during their active duty through the OMN website. Sponsors are responsible for making sure that correspondence and packages are sent at least once a month. You would be “adopting” them for that time. The experience is very rewarding and you will develop a relationship with a soldier.
- YOU can provide items to send to the soldiers by dropping them off in the Chanhassen Senior Citizens Center drop site. Desired donations include multiples of hygiene items such as shampoo, deodorant, sunscreen, soap, Chapstick, eye drops, Q-tips, foot powder, dental floss, etc. See the OMN website for a complete list of items.
- YOU can donate money to purchase items needed for the packages.
- YOU can pray for our soldiers regularly.
