Shawn joined the staff of Our Savior in December 2004. He is a native of Watertown, MN, where he attended St. Peter Lutheran School (now Christ Community Lutheran School). From there, he attended Mayer Lutheran High School, and Concordia College in St. Paul. Shawn believes best times of his childhood were spent with his youth group growing up. These experiences turned Shawn’s interest to youth ministry at Concordia. He is blessed with many talents, including playing the guitar, drums, and singing. *New* Sunday School Curriculum
This year our curriculum is Bible Song, a fun way to get children excited about their faith!
This curriculum has two sections: large group and small group. In our large group, we will be singing praise, praying together, and introducing the Bible story. In our small groups, we will read the Bible story and search more into God's Scripture, applying the Bible stories to our lives today!
What should I expect in Sunday School?
Expect fun, new friends, solid teaching, and added excitement to your child's faith as they dig deeper into the Bible! "Jesus called the children to Him and said, 'Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.'" (Luke 18:16, NIV)
Jesus is calling our children today to come to Him. In Sunday School, we teach children about Christ so that they may worship Him, communicate with Him, and follow Him with their whole heart!
However, the teaching does not stop there. As your child grows, teaching them about Jesus in the home is a vital step in their walk of faith. We, as Sunday School staff and volunteers, will equip you to be connecting with your child through God, teaching them daily about His love. We will help you make Sunday School into Monday School, Tuesday School, Wednesday School, etc to spread the excitement our little ones have about their faith!
When is Sunday School, and how old must my child be to attend?
Sunday School starts on September 19, 2010 and will be held through May 22, 2011 (excluding holiday weekends) from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Each child will meet in their classroom, head down to the gym for large group time, and then back to their classroom for their small group time with their peers.
Sunday School starts at 3 years of age through 8th grade. Our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders will again be with Ray and Janet Frigard and will be working through the curriculum in only their smaller peer group.
What does OSLC offer families outside of Sunday School?
Our Savior Lutheran Church is dedicated to nourishing families in God's Word through small groups, Bible studies, youth activities, and family activities. Check out the Church Calendar for the most recent news and upcoming events at Our Savior!
In addition, be sure to sign up (on the Children's Ministry board in the Fellowship Hall) for all of our Family Fun events at Our Savior.

Notes to Sunday School teachers...
We are looking for teachers for this year's Sunday School program! Grab a friend or two (to tag team a classroom), and come on down to one of our informational/training sessions for the 2010-2011 school year. All sessions will be held in the Youth Room and will go for approximately one hour. If you cannot attend one of these but still want to teach, no worries! Just contact me (see below) and we'll get you equipped with everything you need to teach our little ones.
Meetings are August 19 and 26 at 7:30 p.m. and September 7 at 7:30 p.m. All meetings will cover the same information, but if you want to come to more than one, feel free!
If you're wondering what the duties of a Sunday School teacher would be, here's a nice synopsis of what you would be doing during your small group time:
-Reading from the Bible
-Leading a simple craft
-Talking with the kids about how they can apply the story to themselves
-Ending in prayer
Even if you cannot teach every Sunday, we still would love to have you teach when you can! This year our goal is to have at least two teachers per classroom so if you cannot make it a certain day, no worries!
If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or if you're ready to help, please contact me! I would enjoy hearing from you and I look forward to getting to know you!
