Fitness is Fun! Students will learn to understand that their body is a temple of God and because of that they should strive to keep it healthy. Students will participate in PE five days a week (K through Grade 4) and four days a week (Grades 5 though 8.) Each grade participates in the Presidential Physical Fitness Program.

Both competitive and non-competitive game situations will be encouraged in the lower grades and experienced in the middle school grades. The skills learned in each grade build upon the next. Opportunities will be presented for students to belong to a group in which each child is accepted, and we will work to develop leadership skills in the group. Students will learn to work together through cooperative learning activities and the emphasis on all activities will be about fun and teamwork, not winning or losing.

Kindergarten through Grade 2

  • Students will explore Physical Education through both non-locomotor and locomotor movements and fitness activities
  • Gross Motor skills will improve through the use of Scooters, Jump Ropes, Balls and the use of the Parachute
  • Manipulative skills will be practiced using bean-bags, juggling scarves and beach balls

Grades 3 and 4

  • Students will explore a variety of sports, locomotor movements and fitness activities
  • Children will be given the opportunity to practice teamwork in a group activity in which everyone is accepted for their God-given ability

Grades 5 through 8

  • Students will continue to improve skills in a variety of sports and fitness activities
  • Students will learn strategies, rules and etiquette of the activities
  • The teens will be given the opportunity to practice teamwork in which everyone is accepted for their God-given ability
  • Improving leadership will be encouraged and stressed throughout the class
  • The health magazine, Current Health, will be reviewed once a week. It is a great tool to help each student understand how to cherish his/her body, the temple of God
